2025年5月27日夕刻、三重大学 公衆衛生・産業医学・実地疫学講座セミナー室にて、アフリカ連合デーを祝うインフォーマルな集まりが開催され、無事に終了しました。本イベントは、文化交流と連帯の促進を目的として行われました。

　アフリカ連合デー（African Union Day）は、アフリカ諸国が連帯と統一を祝う記念日で、毎年5月25日に祝われます。これは、1963年にアフリカ統一機構（OAU）が設立された日を記念するもので、現在のアフリカ連合（AU）の前身です。アフリカ連合は、アフリカ全体の平和・統一・発展を目的とした国際組織で、55の加盟国があります。アフリカ連合デーは、アフリカの歴史、文化、多様性への理解を深めるとともに、アフリカ出身者の誇りを共有する日でもあります。

　本イベント参加者は多様で、公衆衛生・産業医学・応用疫学講座の教職員や大学院、研究室研修、新医学専攻コースの学生のほか、環境疫学分野の職員、学内のさまざまな専攻のアフリカ出身の留学生、そしてMie Projectの部員が集まりました。

　セミナー室にはアフリカ音楽が流れ、参加者はリラックスした雰囲気の中で交流を始め、自己紹介を行いました。開会の挨拶は、公衆衛生・産業医学・実地疫学講座の教授である神谷元が務め、イベントの趣旨を説明し、異文化間のつながりの重要性について言及しました。その後、講座スタッフであるElijah Kuurdor（ガーナ出身）がアフリカ連合デーの意義について解説しました。

　会場ではピザやさまざまなフィンガーフードが提供され、参加者に好評でした。イベントの目玉となったのは、コンゴ民主共和国、ケニア、ガーナ、ザンビア出身の代表者によるプレゼンテーションで、それぞれの母国の観光名所や食文化、独自の文化的な話題が紹介され、参加者の異文化理解が深まりました。その後も音楽と自由な歓談が続き、参加者同士の交流とネットワーキングが促進されました。

　最後には感謝の言葉とともに集合写真が撮影され、このイベントを象徴する「団結」と「友情」の精神がしっかりと記録に残されました。来年度以降もぜひこのような機会を持ちたいと思います。興味のある方は、ぜひご一報ください！

An Informal Celebration of African Union Day Was Held

On the evening of May 27, 2025, an informal gathering was successfully held at the Seminar Room of the Department of Public Health, Occupational Medicine, and Field Epidemiology at Mie University to celebrate African Union Day. The event aimed to promote cultural exchange and solidarity.

African Union Day, celebrated annually on May 25, commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, the predecessor of today's African Union (AU). The AU is a continental organization comprising 55 member states, dedicated to promoting peace, unity, and development across Africa. The day serves to enhance understanding of African history, culture, and diversity, while also fostering pride among people of African origin.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including faculty and graduate students from the Department of Public Health, Occupational Medicine, and Field Epidemiology; students enrolled in laboratory training and the New Medical Science Course; staff from the Environmental Epidemiology division; African students from various academic disciplines; and members of the Mie Project.

As participants entered the seminar room, African music played in the background, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for introductions and mingling. The opening remarks were delivered by Professor Hajime Kamiya, who leads the Department of Public Health, Occupational Medicine, and Field Epidemiology. He explained the purpose of the event and highlighted the importance of intercultural connections. This was followed by an explanation of the meaning of African Union Day by Mr. Elijah Kuurdor, a staff member of the department originally from Ghana.

Attendees enjoyed pizza and a variety of finger foods, which were well-received. A highlight of the event was a series of presentations by student representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Ghana, and Zambia. They introduced tourist attractions, culinary traditions, and unique aspects of their cultures, deepening participants' cross-cultural understanding.

The evening continued with background music and casual conversation, encouraging further interaction and networking among attendees. The event concluded with words of thanks and a group photograph that captured the spirit of unity and friendship symbolized by the celebration.
